The Importance of Nutrition in Vertical Jump Development

In this article I am going to explain the importance of nutrition in vertical jump development. When you are training to increase your vertical leap, people sometimes fail to realize that proper training requires more than just working out. Correct training involves more of a lifestyle change where on top of working out, you are eating, drinking, and sleeping properly in order for your body to be in the best state to make development gains. Think of your training as a car - working out, diet, and rest are different parts of the car - if one of those parts isn't working right, its gonna slow the car down as a whole. If you're eating and resting properly with a disciplined training routine, you will see gains quicker.

Focus on improving your body composition to get your body in a state where it can reach its vertical potential. You should try and gain muscle and lose fat in order to do this. This means you should be reducing your calorie intake. Most people eat foods that are high in calories but still don't fill you up. Examples of this would be Poptarts, Cokes, anything from McDonalds, etc. In order to gain muscle, make sure that your diet has a healthy protein to calorie ratio. Generally I like to have 1 gram of protein for every pound of your body weight. So if you weight 150 pounds, look to have about 150 grams of protein in your diet.

The biggest problem with nutrition and vertical jump development is that people change there diet drastically from one extreme to the next. What results is the feeling like you haven't had enough to eat. This will have an effect of your performance and then you'll eventually binge.

The key is to find a diet that introduces gradual changes to your diet that is joined with a proper vertical jump development program. There are various programs out there that not only will give you a vertical jump program, but a nutrition plan that will tell you exactly what and when you should be putting certain foods into your body. These programs place a high importance of nutrition in vertical jump development.
